Honeydew melon is a variety of melon, which belongs to the family of musk melon. Its a family favourite fruit at our place because of its sweet taste. We normally would cut the fruit and eat it as it is. But there will be times the half finished fruit sits in the fridge for a few days and nobody wants to eat it. Something innovative has to be prepared during such times to make it interesting. Here is one such recipe..Muskmelon Cooler! It can be served as a refreshing drink or as a dessert.

  • Transfer the grated fruit flesh plus liquid into a mixing bowl. Add pinch of salt and sweetener (jaggery, sugar or maple syrup) according to taste and mix everything well.
  • Add milk and cardamom powder and give it a good mix.
  • Keep it in the fridge for cooling before you serve.
  • While serving, mix it well and scoop both juice and the fruit gratings into the serving bowl.

Tips:
  • For a quick serving, use cold milk and refrigerated fruit for this recipe.

Mango is one of the fruits which is liked by most of the people. This is the season of mangoes here in India, and we are making the fullest use of the season this year! Apart from the mangoes we buy from nearby fruit stalls and supermarkets in our area, my hubby visited 'Mango Mela' this time and he bought varieties of mangoes from there. Simply we ate mangoes like anything! Also, I prepared Mango Seekarane, juice, milkshake, etc. almost regularly.
Usually, I prepare milkshake from mango, and Smoothie was very new to me. Sometime back, I had seen Smoothie preparation in a TV cookery show and got inspired by them! Here is my version of smoothie, with slight variations in the original recipe..

Preparation time: 10 - 15 minutes
Cooling time: 1 hour
Servings: 2

Ingredients:
1 large mango - fully ripen
Thick curd - 200 ml
Milk - 50 ml (See Tips)
Water - 50 to 100 ml
Sugar - 8 to 10 tsp (adjust according to taste)
Pinch of salt

Method:
Peel and de-seed the mango, and chop it finely. Keep 1/4th portion of the chopped mango separately for decoration.
Take the remaining 3/4th portion of chopped mango, blend it into smooth paste along with curd and sugar.
To this, add milk, pinch of salt and little water to adjust the consistency. Blend the smoothie for another 20 - 25 seconds. Check and adjust the taste.
Transfer the smoothie to a bowl and refrigerate it for atleast one hour.
Spread one layer of chopped mango on the bottom of serving glass. Slowly, pour the smoothie and fill it till 3/4th of the glass.
Top it with one layer of chopped mango. That's all, delicious Smoothie is ready to serve!

Tips:
  • Mango Smoothie can also be prepared without adding milk. If the curd is sour in taste, addition of milk will help to reduce the sourness.
  • If you use refrigerated mango and curd for preparing the Smoothie, it can be served instantly, i.e., without cooling!

Looks like the watermelon season has started now in Bangalore. Last week when we had been to groceries, hubby wanted to buy watermelon - bigger ones! Somehow, I feel that selecting the watermelon is really a tough task. Because the fruit pieces kept in the shops will always look so reddish but the fruit which we buy will not be so good most of the times! :D
This time, we were happy with the color of the watermelon, but it was not so sweet in taste. So, I thought of preparing watermelon juice. Believe me, the whole fruit we finished by preparing juice daily :) I had used enough sugar to give a sweet touch to the juice and it was really delicious!

Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Servings: 2

Ingredients:
Watermelon pieces chopped into medium size cubes - about 4 glass full (I have used the serving glass for measurement)
Sugar 4 - 5 spoon or to taste
Pinch of salt
Pepper powder - 1/2 spoon
Ice cubes - optional

Method:
Blend the watermelon pieces in mixer finely. Remove the crushed seeds using a strainer.
Add sugar, pepper powder and pinch of salt to the juice and mix well.
Serve chilled or add few ice cubes and serve immediately!
During hot days, this juice will be a perfect drink to serve.

Tips:
  • If you use chilled watermelon for preparing the juice, it will be very nice to drink immediately after preparation. No need to add ice cubes also
